A family friend holds a garden fete every year for a different cause. This year’s chosen charity was Help for Heroes, a charity which supports injured service men and women on their return from Iraq and Afghanistan. More information can be found by clicking on the link above.
For the past few years mum and I have baked cakes and cookies to be sold. I was so pleased that mum had regained enough strength to be able to help as there was a lot to do.
We made:
Lucinda’s Busy Day Chocolate Cake with Buttercream Icing
A three ingredient pineapple cake (I kid you not! – recipe below).
2 cups self-raising flour
1 cup sugar
450g can crushed pineapple
Sift flour into a mixing bowl and combine with sugar. Add pineapple – juice and all – and mix well. Pour into a paper-lined cake tin and bake at 180C for 40 minutes or until cooked in the middle.
A banana and walnut cake with Orange Icing
Carrot Cake Cookies with Cream Cheese Frosting
Herbed Flatbreads (From Martha Mondays).
And Dog Biscuits which were a huge hit with the dogs in the park (and Violet of course) last year when I made them and were the first thing to be snapped up this year – thanks Lisa.
In total the fete raised £1,250 which for a fete that lasted three hours is remarkable. Help for Heroes is a wonderful charity and I am so pleased that mum and I were able to offer our support by baking cakes and cookies.
